The President of the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana (CMSR-G), Very Rev. Fr. Paul Saa-Dade Ennin, SMA, has urged Religious Sisters in the Media to keep up the spirit of being good ambassadors of the activities of their various congregations and the Conference.
Speaking on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at a five-day training for the Sisters at the Centre for Spiritual Renewal at Santase in Kumasi, he said there were many unreported activities being embarked on by the Religious, hence, the Conference saw the need to expose the sisters into the use of the media.
“This training is to make ourselves known and appreciated,” he noted, and encouraged the Sisters to take the training seriously and make good use of it so that the purpose of the conference would be achieved.
According to him, the Conference had realised that the Religious in Ghana were doing a lot of things but people did not know about it, all because “we are not making ourselves visible.”
He added that “today if you are not on the media, it means you don’t exist and that is the reason why as a Conference we are organising this training to help you Sisters to tell your own stories of your Congregations to the world.”
The training was organised to train Sisters to report the activities and programs of their various congregations as well as develop the writing skills of the Religious to tell their own stories on projects and programmes, to establish a continuous framework to update their knowledge in media and communication activities and to learn how to interview, avoid common mistakes, and focus on delivering key messages to the targeted audience.
It was also organised to help Sisters to know about photography and videography as well as the effective use of Social Media and strategically ensure visibility of the Conference of Major Superiors to all its Stakeholders and Funding/Donor Partners.
The facilitators were Mr. Damian Avevor, Mr. Robert Dela Mawuenyegah and Mr. Benedictus Adzah of NewsWatch Media and Communications, who took the Sisters through the introduction to journalism/mass communication, the basics of news writing, the structure of news story, writing of Leads, interviewing skills, public speaking and presentation skills, feature writing, media ethics, using social media for evangelisation, facebook live streaming, photography, videography and how to use phones to take good photos and videos.
