The St. Joseph School at Maame Krobo in the Apostolic Vicariate of Donkorkrom, in Ghana’s Eastern Region, has hosted this year’s inter-school Spelling Bee Competition for some Basic Schools in the Afram Plains on June 4, 2024.
The participating Schools were St. Joseph School, Maame Krobo, Soda Domeabra D/A School, Maame Krobo, and St. James Academy, Maame Krobo. Also included were participants from some selected schools in Donkorkrom and its surrounding communities. There were thirty-five (35) contestants in all; of which twenty-four (24) came from St. Joseph School.
Rev. Fr. Saviour Seddo Darkey, the School Manager and Parish Priest of St. Joseph Parish, Maame Krobo in a welcome address said “the purpose of this competition is to help the children spell words correctly without making reference to any book and increase their confidence level.”
The Spelling Bee Competition was facilitated by a team of three officials; two men and a lady, from the National Junior Spellers organisation in Accra. The parents of the contesting candidates were present to cheer their children up.
At the end of the competition, sixteen out of the twenty-four participants from St. Joseph School Maame Krobo qualified for the next level (Regional). The team congratulated the contestants who did qualify for the next level and encouraged them to put in their best, come the next stage.
