Strive to be Masters of Technology and not Its Slave- Archbishop Palmer-Buckle Advises AUGUSCO Students

The Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast and Patron of St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) in the Capital City of Ghana’s Central Region has counseled students of the 92-year old institution to avoid using technology for things that are irrelevant to their life.

Speaking at the 92nd  Speech and Prize-giving Day of College on Saturday , March 19, 2022 in Cape Coast, he said even though technology is the primary driving force in a wide range of global activities and had become the new norm even in the education sector, if caution is not exercised, it can turn one into a slave,, hence, diverting one’s attention away from the original course and purpose.

While emphasising that technology has become an integral component of human society, he cautioned students to “strive to be masters of technology and not its slave and avoid addiction because the dangers associated are many.”

A colorful display of the college’s Cadet prowess, reunions of alumni students, and the inauguration of projects completed by the 97-year group of the College characterized the celebrations.

The ceremony was attended by hosts of dignitaries including clergymen, political figures, alumni of the school, students and Head teachers from sister schools in the Region and onlookers from all walks of life.

Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who was the Special Guest of Honour for the celebration on the theme “Redefining education delivery in a technological age, the role of St. Augustine’s College” on the request of the Senior Prefect of the College, Master Reginald Jojo Gwira, promised to give the College with a 60-seater vehicle to ease the students’ transportation needs.

President Akufo-Addo further lauded the school as one of the best second-cycle institutions in the country, praising the church’s leadership for putting in place the procedures that enabled the school to achieve its goals.

He promised to provide the necessary support and logistics to guarantee that teaching and learning activities in the school are conducive.
