Take Holy Mass Seriously”- Bishop Asare Advises Catholics

Must read

On the occasion of the celebration of the Body and Blood of Christ, the Most Rev, Anthony Narh Asare, one of the Auxiliary Bishops in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, has emphasised the importance in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and has cautioned Catholics to seriously partake in Holy Mass.

He said this during his pastoral visit to the St. Martin of Tours Garrison Catholic Church, Teshie Camp on June 22, 2025.

According to Bishop Asare, Corpus Christi celebrates the real presence of God during holy Mass.

He said, “Dear people of God, the Holy communion and Mary are two serious things for us as Catholics. Corpus Christi celebrates the presence of God. The feast is an occasion for us to meet Christ, we call the real presence”.

He also said that the Holy Eucharist is a Sacrament and sacrifice where “we are being fed spiritually” during mass.

Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare during his homily raised concerns about how people have turned Holy Mass into a social event, citing the use of mobile phones, inappropriate dancing, dressing and low participation.

He advised that the Holy Mass is a Sacrament and sacrifice, therefore Catholics must fully participate and pay attention to everything that goes on during Mass.

He noted, “We must sing along… we have not come to watch the Mass, we have come to celebrate together. I am saying this because we have something important but we play with it.”

He highlighted the opportunities Catholics have to receive the Holy Eucharist every time they attend Mass.

Bishop Asare also emphasised the importance of physically participating in Holy Mass, adding that online platforms distract people from fully participating in the Mass.

He added, “Let’s be careful and not joke with what we have… When you have the opportunity to go for Mass make good use of it and if you are playing the role as a minister do it well because you are accountable not to Father or Parish Council, you are accountable to the one we serve. Take the Mass seriously”.
