The Most Rev. Julien Kaboré, Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, has called on the people of God in the Catholic Diocese of Wiawso to “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”
In a homily at a Thanksgiving Mass to climax the Silver Jubilee of the Wiawso Diocese at the Our Lady of Annunciation Cathedral at Sefwi Mpomam on Saturday, March 28, 2026, he told the about 2,000 Catholics gathered at the Cathedral that the celebration calls on them to rejoice, give thanks, and bear witness by espousing to people how gracious God has been to the Diocese.
“Today, as we celebrate twenty-five years of the life and mission, you need to understand more deeply the grace of this moment,” he said.

The Silver Jubilee Thanksgiving Mass presided over by the Nuncio was concelebrated by the Most Rev. Samuel Nkuah Boateng, Bishop of Wiawso, and the Most Rev. Joseph Francis Kwaku Essien, Bishop Emeritus of Wiawso, as well as scores of Priests from the Diocese and other Dioceses.
The theme for the Silver Jubilee celebration was: “Celebrating 25 Years as a Diocese: Moving into the Future with Hope and Courage.”
Addressing the about 2,000 people of God, Archbishop Kaboré noted that “Mission is not first about our own plans, however generous they may appear; it is about fidelity to the will of God.”
Mission, he stated, begins at home, saying, “It begins within us, in the quiet work of grace that restores, heals, and renews. As charity begins at home, so too does mission, in our diocesan, parochial, and domestic churches.”

According to the Nuncio, “the Christian life is a pilgrimage, an ongoing return to the Father’s house where we rejoice over each day His faithful and merciful love. This journey starts first in the heart of each person, then within the community of believers, and finally extends to the whole of humanity.”
“To go home, therefore, means to enter a conversion. It is a journey that requires us to remain firmly rooted in our new life in this path of Christ, the Redeemer, allowing Him to guide our steps,” the Nuncio said.
This conversion has, as we know, two inseparable dimensions. There is first a necessary purification, a liberation from sin. The man in the Gospel had to be freed before he could be sent. In the same way, we need to allow the Lord to free us from all that binds and p diminishes us.

“The days that lead us toward Holy Week offer a particularly fitting time to rediscover the grace of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, where the Lord restores our dignity and renews our hearts. In a world where moral clarity is often obscured, the call to conversion remains urgent and indispensable,” he told the people of God of Wiawso Diocese.
The Nuncio noted that “For twenty-five years, the Diocese of Wiawso has been precisely a home, where the Gospel has been received, lived, and transmitted,” adding that “A local Church is not an abstract reality but a family of God’s people, journeying together.”
He told the faithful that the silver jubilee invites us to renew our sense of belonging, to cherish this ecclesial home, and to strengthen the bonds of communion that unite us.

He urged the people of God to see that gratitude stands at the heart of every Jubilee and to remember to recognize that the history celebrated is, above all, the history of God’s action. It is He who has guided, sustained, and blessed the Diocese of Wiawso often in unseen ways, yet always with fidelity.
He, therefore, entreated the Bishops, Priests, Religious, and lay faithful to lift their hearts in thanksgiving for all that the Lord had accomplished.
“We remember with gratitude the pioneering missionaries, whose generosity laid the foundations of faith; we give thanks for the Bishops, Priests, Consecrated Men and Women, and lay faithful who, through dedication and sacrifice, have contributed to the growth of this local Church, We recall the establishment of Parishes, the building of vibrant communities, the witness of charity, and the perseverance shown in moments of trial.”
