The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has through its charity organization, CARITAS, supported some needy and vulnerable in the Tema- Battor Deanery.
The exercise which took place in the Greater Accra Region of the West African Country is part of the second batch of food items being distributed to selected parish communities to offer relief during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Church offered food items such as bags of rice, oil, tin tomatoes, and tin fishes to some 15 communities in the Tema-Battor deanery through selected parishes. The communities included Tema New Town, Dawhenya, Prampram, Koluedor, Afienya and Battor.
The Archbishop of Accra, the Most. Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie commissioning the distribution at the Blessed Clementina Catholic Church in Ashaiman, said the distribution should not focus on just Catholics but every needy within the selected communities.
He also tasked the Priests who were the distributors of the food items to emphasize on the preventive measures outlined for Coronavirus despite the ban on restricted movements of persons has been lifted.
The financing of the food items was sponsored by the International Help of Missionaries (IHM) Headquartered in New York City in the USA.
Rev. Fr. Cletus M. Kwame Forson, the Trustee and representative of IHM in Ghana, said it is the hope of IHM that these food items would go a long way to express the love of God and Jesus Christ in the lives of those who are suffering.
Fr. Forson also asked the Priests and beneficiaries of the IHM’s generosity to continue to pray for those who are expressing their love with the Church.
The beneficiary Parish Communities increased from 10 communities in the previous section to 15 in the second section.
