Three Sisters of Mary Immaculate Profess Final Vows

In the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate (SMI), three young ladies made their Final Commitment to the Lord totally at a ceremony at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Daffiama, Wa Diocese in the Upper West Region of Ghana on the Solemnity of Assumption of Mary, August 15, 2024

Mother Church marks the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. In Mother Mary’s glorious Assumption, the Church celebrates the fulfillment of her Christian and Religious destiny, and with her  the greatness of the Lord proclaimed.

With Mary as the Patron of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate, this day had been set apart for the celebration of final commitment to the Lord in the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate, that’s if there are candidate(s).

On this important day, the Congregation was blessed with three young ladies who made their final commitment to God in the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate (SMI). For this occasion, Sr. Hagar Zuuri, Sr. Joyce Dikumwin and Evelyn Aawona chose this as their theme for the celebration:  “Here I Am Lord Send Me.” (Is 8:6)

Profile of the following Sisters who made their final commitment to the Lord in the SMI Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate on 15th August, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Daffiama – Upper West Region.

Sr. Hagar Zuuri is from Sankana a village under Nadowli – Kaleo District in the Upper West Region. She is the first born of her parents Sr. Zuuri completed Queen of Peace Senior High School, Nadowli and had the passion of becoming a religious.

She started her formation programme in 2010.  She entered postulancy in 2010 at Daffiama. She continued her formation programme in the Novitiate Wa, Kparsega and made her first profession of vows in 2015.  After her first profession, she was placed at Wanye Spiritual Renewal Centre –Loho from 2015 to 2017 to work as a secretary.

From 2018 to 2019, Sr. Hagar was assigned to work in the Wa Diocesan Office as a Bursar. Currently Sr. Zuuri is a student in Rome (Pontifical Urban University) since 2019 till date.

However, Sr. Joyce Dikumwin is from Nadowli-Nawuli, Nadowli – Kaleo District, Upper West Region.  She is the last born of her parents.

Sr. Joyce attended and completed Kaleo Senior High Technical School and had the interest of becoming a nun one day.

She started her postulancy programme at Daffiama in 2012 and entered Novitiate in 2014 to continue with her formation programme at Wa, Kparsega.

After her first profession in 2016, Sr. Joyce was posted to the SMI Generalate as the House Bursar from 2016 to 2018.  From 2018 to 2019, she was sent to Bole Community while a student in the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Berekum.  Currently Sr. Dikumwin is a nurse working in St. Lucy Catholic Hospital-Tamale.

Sr. Evelyn Aawona is from puffien-Tangzu, a village under Nandom Municipality in the Upper West Region.  Sr. Evelyn is the second born out of three siblings.

She attended and completed Akumadan Senor High School in the Ashanti – Region.  She heard the call of God and decided to join the SMI Congregation.

Sr. Evelyn Aawona started her postulancy formation in 2012 and entered the Novitiate 2014.

She made her first profession of vows 2016 and was posted to Nadowli community to work in the sacristy and with the youth.  In 2017 she was transferred to Jirapa SMI Queen of Peace Guest House as an assistant manager.

In 2019, Sr. Aawona was sent to Rome for further studies (Pontifical Urban University) till date.

These Sisters received the ring, by the SMI Superior General Sr. Christina Pogbeyir and filled their empty baskets with religious symbols.  The Bible, Cross, Candle and Rosary for their Christian journey.
