Togbega Kadzi-Zogah II Charges Residents of Sokpoe to Commit to Development

The paramount chief of Sokpoe Traditional Area in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region has called for an all-hands-on-deck approach to developing the traditional area.

Togbega Kadzi-Zogah II observed that, for the traditional area to meet its development goals, there was a need for the natives to cultivate self-help spirit. “The development of Sokpoe is everyone’s responsibility,” he admonished.

He said with the able support of the Traditional Council, he will lead the traditional area to successfully reach its goals, but stressed that it is necessary for the natives to get involved.

The paramount chief made the appeal at a special meeting held at Sokpoe on Saturday, 12 June, 2021 with Chiefs, the Manklalo, the Queenmothers, Stool Fathers and some opinion leaders of the Sokpoe traditional area including Dumega Korku Ganu, Gp Capt. Asafo (Rtd), and Manklalo Agbo II.

Others were Hon. Mawuko Eworyi, Hon. Fingero Dikah, Mr. Atsu Titiati, E.Y.Agbengu, Mr. George Asafo, Cmdr Mate-Langlah (Rtd), Togbe Foetsali II, Togbe Ayihor, Togbe Hervi, Togbe Adabla, Togbe Tsike, Togbe Avusu, Mama Norviede, Mama Akorsuba, Ex WOI Segbefia Bright, Zikpuitor Kodze, Zikpuitor Amedigbor, and Mamaga Adzesu II, the Paramount Queen Mother.

The paramount chief said unlike other jurisdictions where the land is vested in the paramount stool, making it possible for the paramount chief and the Traditional Council to determine what development project to cite, and at where, lands in Sokpoe traditional area belong to individual families and clans. This he said makes it imperative for the various families and clans to cooperate with the traditional council for the sake of development.

One after the other, attendees bemoaned the lack of development of the traditional area and pledged to rededicate their energies to accelerating it.

Mr Atsu Titiati called on the Traditional Council to institute administrative structures to spearhead the development process, a point supported by Cdr Langlah (Rtd) and Mawuko Eworyi, a former DCE of South Tongu.

Committees were formed to coordinate development programmes that will bring employment to the people, especially the youth.

The committees, among their tasks, are to organize Town Hall meetings for mass involvement in the development drive of the traditional area.

Togbega Kadzi-Zogah II entreated the committees to work assiduously to achieve the target for the good of Sokpoe Traditional Area.
