Tony Oteng-Gyasi Appointed as Board Chairman of GRA

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Tony Oteng-Gyasi as the new Board Chair of the Ghana Revenue Authority, (GRA).

The former President of the Association of Ghana Industries, and Managing Director and Chairman of Tropical Cable and Conductor Ltd will replace Professor Stephen Adei as the new Chair of the Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) who served as Board Chair from 2019 to 2021.

He is expected to bring his experiences to bear in the management of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

Speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate the nine-member board, Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, noted that work had already started on transforming the authority by streamlining its business to address the limiting bureaucracies to ensure easier tax compliance.

He said it was imperious for the members of the board to ensure that the initiatives were continued to the point of completion and the GRA‘s orientation transformed into a truly service-oriented organisation.

“I assure you that the Ministry of Finance will support you as you go about creating a fit-for-purpose GRA capable of mobilising the needed resources to support Ghana’s transformation, thereby creating jobs for our youth, boosting economic growth and supporting the country’s stability,” he said.

Other Board members include Mr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, Adelaide Ahwireng, Rev. Prof. Peter Ohene Kyei, Kwabena Boateng, Dela Obeng-Sakyi and Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Agyei.

Profile of Tony Oteng-Gyasi

Mr. Tony Oteng-Gyasi was the President of the Association of Ghana Industries, and Managing Director and Chairman of Tropical Cable and Conductor Ltd, a wholly Ghanaian owned manufacturer of electrical cables.

Tony Oteng-Gyasi was born on 15th February 1955 and was educated at the University of Ghana and the Ghana Law School in Economics.

Tony Oteng-Gyasi began his career at the Research Department of the Bank of Ghana. He subsequently joined the Ghana Operation of British Petroleum.

After spending nine years working with British Petroleum (BP) in Ghana in various executive marketing positions, he resigned in 1986 to set up his first company, a successful trading company, Tropical Products Ltd.

In 1997, he set up the Cable Manufacturing Company, called Tropical Cable and Conductor Limited, which he nurtured to become a successful trading and manufacturing firm, with the active assistance of Empretec Ghana.

In 2007, he again set up the only continuous casting and rolling factory for the production of EC Grade Aluminium Rod in West Africa. The company, Western Rod & Wire Ltd. has become a source of raw material for aluminium conductor manufacturers in the region.

Tony Oteng-Gyasi is a recipient of several awards and has been a member of the Council of the Ghana Stock Exchange, and the Council of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

He is the immediate past Chairman of the University of Ghana Council. He holds a degree in Economics and a Certificate in Law from the University of Ghana. He also has a diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK, and is a member of the Ghana Bar Association.
