Use Your Wealth and Riches to Help Others Like Esther Hamilton Did – Catholic Priest in Accra Urges

Must read

A Catholic Priest of the Archdiocese of Accra has urged Christians in the West African country of Ghana to share the wealth they had acquired  with the vulnerable in society like the late Esther Hamilton, a retired Educationist did in her life time.

In a homily at a requiem Mass at the St. Dominic Parish at Taifa, Very Fr. Emmanuel Obeng Codjoe, Parish Priest of St. James Catholic Church, Osu, lamented that there were rich people who do not support the poor and needy with the wealth God had given to them.

He, however, reminded Christians that whatever they had acquired in life was from God, hence they are to share with people no matter their status.

The Mass on Tuesday, August 16, the Memorial of St. Stephen of Hungary presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Arthur, the Parish Priest of St. Dominic, was to mark the One Week Celebration of the demise of Mrs. Esther Hamilton, a staunch parishioner, benefactress of the Taifa Church and a former Headmistress of Apam Secondary School.

She responded to the heavenly call on August 9 at the age of 78.

Fr. Codjoe, who is the Parish Priest of St. James Catholic Church at Osu said it was nostalgic for him to lose a woman he had known to be very dedicated to God’s work and supportive to the Taifa Parish when he (Fr. Codjoe) was in charge of the Taifa Parish.

“Her generosity is very amazing,” he said, noting, Mrs. Hamilton was a faithful and generous benefactress of the Catholic Church in particular St. Dominic Church.

On the readings of the day which drew attention to the need to depend on, hope and trust in God, not any earthly possessions, Fr. Codjoe pointed out that those who depended on God in the spirit of their riches would go to heaven.

He prayed that Catholics would not attach themselves only to their riches but to always be ready to share some with others.

Some Parishioners of the St. Dominic Church told newwatchgh.com that the demise of Mrs. Esther Hamilton, was a big blow to the Community, because her commitment to the things of God and generosity to the Church could not be measured.

The family has scheduled Saturday, September 17, 2022 for the funeral Liturgy at the St. Dominic Church.
