The Marshallan Relief and Development Services (MAREDES), a charitable organization of the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, a catholic friendly society on November 23, 2021, donated relief items to the Keta Municipal Assembly.
The items are to be distributed to victims of the tidal waves disaster along the Keta, Anloga and Ketu South Municipal coastland.
On November 7, there were reports of a tidal wave which destroyed several homes leading to the displacement of many residents of the affected communities.
Over 3,000 people in the Keta Municipality were rendered homeless after tidal waves swept through their homes. Communities such as Abutiakope, Kedzikope and Keta Central were largely affected as affected homeless residents are left with nothing to salvage.
The Supreme Knight, Sir Knight Brother Patrick Kobina Anumel and the Grand Lady, the Most Respected Lady Sister Elizabeth Anderson-Yebuah, and the Chairman of MAREDES, Worthy Brother Dr. Andre Kwasi-Kumah, donated the items on behalf MAREDES.
The items included student mattresses, bags of rice and clothes. The items were received by the Keta Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Emmanuel Gemegah on behalf of the Anloga and Ketu South Municipal Chief Executives.
Mr. Gemegah expressed his gratitude to the Marshallan fraternity for the sign of great love shown to the victims of the tidal waves.
He pledged the items will be distributed equally among the affected districts as directed by the Supreme Knight Sir Brother Patrick Kobina Anumel.
Present also were the Keta-Akatsi Regional Grand Knight, Worthy Brother Augustine Hope Agbenu, the Regional Chaplain Sir Knight Brother Rev Fr Gideon Kofi Fianya together with the Grand Knights and Noble Ladies of the various Councils and Courts of the Region.
After the donation, the MAREDES team visited one of the affected communities at Kedzikope electoral area in the Keta Municipal to see for themselves the destruction of the tidal waves.
The Marshallan Relief and Development Services (MAREDES) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and the development wing of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall committed to the needs of society.
It provides relief and development services in line with the fundamental principles and tenets underpinning the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall. The idea behind MAREDES is to provide a framework to harness the legal, organizational and technical competencies of the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall spanning over 90 years to undertake and render services more effectively and efficiently to society.
As an NGO, MAREDES was registered on October 28, 2011 with the Registrar Generals Department.
