The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra has urged the church community as Pilgrims of Hope to support the Legacy of Hope project as a way of asking for reconciliation, conversion and spiritual renewal with God.
In his homily during the official opening of the Jubilee Year and Holy Door in the Accra Archdiocese at the Holy Spirit Cathedral on Sunday, December 29, 2024, he highlighted the church’s efforts in raising funds for the Legacy of Hope project.
He said, “As pilgrims of Hope, we make an appeal for our children’s hospital. We need money to complete it and also purchase some of the equipment”.
The opening of the Holy Door is the ushering in of the Jubilee Year of Hope which is a Sacred Year celebrated every 25 years as a “Year of God’s favor” as written in the Book of Prophet Isaiah.
He explained that the Holy Door of Nazareth provides principles that help sustain families and societies to be strong.
He said, “When a family lacks these principles of honesty, justice and respect for human dignity, the family becomes weak. That is what guarantees the strength of a family”.
Additionally, he made reference to Pope Francis, stating that “The Holy Door is opened so that we understand the mystery that God walks with us.”
Archbishop Kwofie also emphasized the presence of God’s Hope in the lives of the faithful and said that God’s hope does not disappoint.
“God speaks to us and says there is hope for us; hope does not disappoint,” he stated.
The Holy Door, which has been in existence since the 15th century symbolizes a ritual expression of a change of heart and mind.
Pilgrims pass through the Holy Door in prayer, pilgrimage, sacrifice and confession as a sign of living behind the past and renewing a spiritual commitment with God.
