“You are Ambassadors of Christ”, Ghana’s Bishop Kumordji Tells Newly Ordained Priests

The Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, the bishop of the diocese of Keta-Akatsi has told the newly ordained Priests that they are ambassadors of Christ, hence must decrease for Him to increase in all they do.

He urged them to be worthy of what they celebrate and ensure that the mysteries beneath the Sacraments transfigure them, know, believe and do what they celebrate so as to consecrate themselves to make a significant impact in the life of those they celebrate to.

“Celebrate in a state of grace to be effective ministers of Christ as priests,” he said in a homily during the ordination of Rev. Fr. David Yaw Tay from the St. Francis of Assisi Quasi Parish, Juapong, Rev. Fr. Clifford Selinam Agbitor from the Holy Rosary Quasi Parish, Dabala Junction and Rev. Fr. Roger Yao Govina, SC, a missionary of the Society of Charity.

The August 17, 2024 ordination Mass held at the St. Francis of Assis Parish at Ave-Dakpa was attended by the Most Rev. Anthony Adanuty-Bishop Emeritus of Keta-Akatsi; the Vice Rector of the St. Peter’s Regional Seminary at Pedu, Very Rev. Fr. Richard Mawusi, a host number of priests and religious from the Archdiocese and Dioceses of Accra, Ho and Jasikan.

Bishop Kumordji advised the three newly ordained Priests not to engage in so much activity of the media but to draw closer to God in daily prayers so as to be filled with the nature of Christ.

“Let your activities reflect your call,” he admonished, advising the Priests to teach, sanctify and direct the people of God and also make prayer the priority of their call and celebrate the liturgy with all concentration and not as a routine.

Rev. Msgr. Peter Huletey the Vicar General of the Diocese after the ordination announced the postings of the newly ordained and some transfers on behalf of the Bishop.

Fr. Tay was posted as Assistant Priest to the St. Peter Claver Parish-Dzelukope; Fr. Agbitor as Assistant Priest to the St. Francis of Assisi Quasi Parish-Anloga whilst Rev. Fr. Govina (SC) was posted as Assistant Priest to the St. Rose of Lima Quasi Parish at Atidzive.

On transfers, Rev. Fr. Reuben Adzakey would take over Immaculate Conception Quasi Parish-Hatorgodo as Parish Priest and Rev. Fr. Edwin Fiawornu also takes over St. Joseph the Worker Quasi Parish at Agbedrafor as Parish Priest.

Rev. Fr. Seth Tuagbor has been reposted as Assistant Priest to the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Three Town Denu, Rev. Fr. Maxwell Adzogble as Assistant Cathedral Administrator to Christ the King Cathedral Parish-Akatsi, Rev. Fr Paul Ogene, SC, Parish Priest to the St. Rose of Lina Quasi Parish-Atidzive.

Present at the ordination Mass were a host of traditional leaders including Torgbi Nyamekor Glakpe (V) – paramount chief of Ave-Dakpa traditional area, Torgbi Adogo Agbalekpor (IV) – president of Ave-Xevi traditional council, Torgbi Agbohla (VI) – manklalo of Juapong-Dorfor traditional area and Mama Ablorlor (VII) – queen mother of Akpini traditional area. Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe the member of Paliament for Akatsi North Constituency was also present. The parish mass choir sang the liturgy.
