Youth in Ghana Advised to Support Climate Justice

Must read

Rev. Fr. Evans Adomako Appiah, SJ, the Principal-Designate of Campion Jesuit College at Buduatta, Central Region, has asked young people in Ghana to speak up and take action for climate justice.

He made this call at the 3rd Laudato Si’ Youth Assembly in Ghana taking place at the AG Hotel and Suites in Adjiriganor.

It is being held under the theme, “A Decade of Laudato Si: Journeying Together in Hope for Our Common Home.”

The assembly is being attended by youth leaders from various countries across Africa and stakeholders within the environmental protection institutions.

Speaking about the importance of caring for the environment, Fr. Adomako Appiah said this was part of what the late Pope Francis taught in the Laudato Si’ encyclical.

He therefore asked the youth to be careful about how they use plastics.

He also warned against activities that harm the earth and pollute the environment.

According to him, it is not enough to talk about climate issues. People must also act. “Walk the talk,” he said. “Let your actions match your words.”

Fr. Adomako Appiah said the fight for climate justice will not be easy. But he told the youth not to be afraid.

“There will be challenges,” he said. “But be strong and have courage. God is with you.”

He reminded everyone that great change can start with just one person. “All it takes is one good person,” he said.

He praised the youth for their efforts to protect the environment. He said their work is important for the world we all share.

Fr. Adomako Appiah encouraged them to keep going.

He said they must continue working for a clean and safe planet for all, noting that “Climate justice is everyone’s responsibility.”
