Rev. Fr. Timothy Baghrmwin, a Jesuit Psychologist and one of the managers of the Centre for Spiritual Renewal, Santasi – Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana has charged Sister Communicators in Ghana to be the voice of the voiceless.
He made this statement during the Opening Ceremony of a Media and Communication Training for Sister Communicators in Ghana which took place at the Centre for Spiritual Renewal on May 7, 2024.
He challenged the participants to be the voices for the masses and promote the Gospel, saying, “Communicators are aggressive people, activists and the voice of the voiceless.”
The Priest further encouraged participants to make use of the rare opportunity given them to participate in the training and write stories which would project their Religious Congregations.
He urged them to utilize the knowledge and skills they would gain and work hard on publishing their own works.
Sr. Cecilia Afari, SMMC, Vicar General of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (SMMC), who is the Media Training Project Coordinator for the Sister Communicators, underlined the purpose of the training as a practical exercise to train 20 Sisters in media, communication and networking, create a functioning website and to register a communication network for Women Religious Congregations in Ghana.
Sr. Afari added that the goal of the training, is to make Religious Institutes in Ghana visible by empowering them to use Media and Communication as a tool for effective evangelization.
She applauded the efforts of the Conrad-Hilton Foundation for funding the project and urged participants to participate fully in the training. “Sisters, put heart and soul into the training and reap its benefits,” she said.
The Chairperson for the ceremony, Sr. Emmanuella Dakurah, HHCJ, an English Teacher at Handmaids Preparatory and Junior High School at Nsoatre-Sunyani in her closing remarks, underpinned the necessity for participants to put into practice all the skills they would be acquiring in the course of the training.
She expressed the hope that Sister Communicators would make positive impact in the media space and be communicators of light.
The training which commenced on May 6 and expected to end on May 14, 2024, is being organised by the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious-Ghana (CMSR-GH) in collaboration with Conrad Hilton Foundation and Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church and Global Newswatch Media and Communications, the media partner training the Sister Communicators.
