The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra is set to participate in the global initiative “24 Hours for the Lord,” a special observance by the Holy Father, Pope Francis during the Jubilee Year 2025.
The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, in a letter addressed to the Priests, Religious and lay faithful, has invited Parishes, Rectories, and Outstations within the Archdiocese to organize this important spiritual exercise in communion with the universal Church’s official Jubilee activities in Rome.
“In communion with the official Jubilee activities in Rome, I invite all Parishes, Rectories, and Outstations within the Archdiocese of Accra to organize 24 Hours for the Lord from Friday, March 28th to Saturday, March 29th, 2025 (6:00 AM — 6:00 AM),” he stated.
He emphasised in the March 12 letter, the importance of this spiritual exercise as a time for grace, prayer, repentance, and renewal and encouraged all participants to embrace this opportunity.
He stated, “I encourage you all to embrace this time of grace with great devotion, prayer, repentance, and renewal”.
A recommended schedule for the 24-hour observance has been provided for Parishes to adapt according to their convenience. Highlights of the schedule include:
- 6:00 AM: Opening Mass
- Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: Available throughout the day and night
- 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)
- 12:00 PM: Angelus Midday Prayer followed by Lectio Divina reflecting on Psalm 75:5
- 3:00 PM: Divine Mercy Devotion
- 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM: Additional Sacrament of Reconciliation
- 6:30 PM: Stations of the Cross
- 7:00 PM: Evening Mass
- Vigil in Silence: Personal prayer and reflection throughout the night
- 5:30 AM: Morning Prayer
- 6:00 AM: Concluding Mass
Archbishop Kwofie expressed the hope that this exercise would serve as a moment of profound encounter with Christ for all who participate.
“May this 24 Hours for the Lord be a moment of close encounter with Christ for all who participate. I entrust this initiative to the maternal care of Our Lady, Mother of Mercy.”, he added.
