The Most Rev. Anthony Kwami Adanuty, the Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Keta-Akatsi, presided over his Diamond Jubilee Mass at the St. Teresa of the Child Jesus church at Abor in the Volta Region of Ghana on the first of August 2026.
Concelebrating were Most Revs. Peter Kwasi Sarpong, the Archbishop Emeritus of the Kumasi Archdiocese; Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra; Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, Bishop of Ho; Simon Kofi Appiah, Bishop of Jasikan; Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, Bishop of Keta-Akatsi; Gabriel Ababio Akwasi Mante, Bishop Emeritus of Jasikan; John Kobina Louis, an Auxiliary Bishop of Accra.
Others were Rev. Msgrs. Peter Huletey, the Vicar General of Keta-Akatsi; Walter Mawusi Agbettoh, Vicar General of Ho and Joseph Nsiah, the Vicar General of Jasikan; Moses Attah Debre, Felix Senyo as well as several clergy from the Accra archdiocese, Keta-Akatsi diocese, Ho and Jasikan dioceses joined to concelebrate.
Bishop Mante in his homily praised Bishop Adanuty for his exuberant zeal and energy with which he started his ministerial priesthood as a young man up to the 60th year now that he achieved resounding successes.
He commended Bishop Emeritus Adanuty for the humility, honesty and passion with which he relied on God, who called him to be a priest and a bishop to serve his people. He entreated Bishop Adanuty to continue to surrender himself to the unconditional love of God in the years and decades ahead of him.
There were several goodwill messages. The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Rev. Julien Kabre, congratulated and commended bishop emeritus Adanuty for his fidelity, for being a good shepherd and most especially for his contribution to the church’s missionary outreach throughout the world while serving at the Holy See in the then Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples. He added that his dedication in laying the firm foundations for the newly created Diocese of Keta-Akatsi, which led to the blessing of countless lives, cannot be overemphasised.
The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, led by Bishop Fianu, praised him for his exceptional episcopal leadership. The Keta-Akatsi Diocesan Priests Association, the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church, the St Catherine Senior High School, among others, also extended their felicitations for the various leadership roles he played in their establishment and development as a Bishop.
Bishop Kumordji described Bishop Adanuty as a model priest, bishop, educator, evangelizer, and pacesetter.
He thanked him for still being active in the life of the diocese. He also thanked all those who supported and continue to play a role in his life.
Bishop Kumordji announced that, as a special remembrance of him as the first Bishop of the diocese, the pastoral centre he built is henceforth named the Bishop Anthony Kwami Adanuty Pastoral Centre.
Bishop Adanuty thanked the clergy and the lay faithful for the unexpected celebration for him.
