The Conference of Major Superiors of Africa and Madagascar (COMSAM) is set to hold its 2025 Symposium and 6th Annual General Meeting in South Africa.

The event is scheduled to take place from 23rd to 30th May, 2025, in Johannesburg and Pretoria, under the theme “Hope, Synodality and the Empowerment of Consecrated Life in Africa.”

This week-long symposium aims to unite representatives from six regional conferences across Africa and Madagascar, fostering dialogue, spiritual reflection, and collaborative action through workshops, keynote discussions, and prayerful encounters that address synodal living and the pressing pastoral challenges faced by the Church in Africa.

COMSAM 2025 will include an interactive symposium from 23rd to 25th May at St. Dominic’s School in Boksburg, Johannesburg, featuring speakers from all six African regions.

During the program, talks will be interpreted into three main languages: English, French, and Portuguese.

Approximately, 108,000 Catholic religious, including 25,500 men and 83,200 religious sisters across 55 countries are expected to be present for the program.

It will also be streamed live on the Southern Africa Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) social media platforms.

The 6th Annual general meeting will take place from 26th to 30th May at St. John Maria Vianney Seminary in Pretoria, gathering around 100 leaders from all six African federations.

COMSAM was founded in 2005 and endorsed by the Vatican’s Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (CIVCSVA).

They serve as a voice and network for major superiors across the African continent and also promote communication, formation, and cooperation among diverse cultural and linguistic groups in service of the Church’s mission.

Religious men and women in Africa have made significant contributions in various sectors, including education, healthcare, and social services. They are actively involved in refugee and migrant ministry and efforts to combat human trafficking.
