Two Missionary Priests Ordained at OLA New Achimota

Must read

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, ordained two priests into the sacred priesthood: Rev. Mamertus Adaklumegah, MCCJ, of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus, and Rev. Godwin Kwasi Kudzi, CSJ, of the Congregation of St. Joseph, after undergoing many years of spiritual, academic, and pastoral formation.

The solemn and colourful Eucharistic celebration took place at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in New Achimota, bringing together priests, religious, families, and lay faithful from across the Archdiocese and beyond.

In his homily, the ordaining prelate, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, thanked God for the gift of the two candidates being raised to the altar as preachers of the Word of God and healers of souls.

Addressing the ordinandi, Archbishop Kwofie noted that their many years of formation would be meaningless if they had not learned to do things differently in service to God and humanity.

He urged them to turn their attention to the community of the baptized faithful, reminding them that they share in the common priesthood of all believers.

“Preach the Word of God in season and out of season, and pray day and night,” he admonished.

Reflecting on the second reading of the day, the Archbishop encouraged the newly ordained to live lives worthy of their calling.

“We must live humbly and maturely, because that is how we draw closer to God,” he said, adding that through patience and endurance, the life of Christ radiates in believers.

He further emphasized the missionary mandate of the Church, recalling Christ’s command to preach the Gospel to all nations.

“We are given the mandate to proclaim the Gospel to the whole world, and woe unto us if we do not preach the Gospel,” he stated, urging the priests to develop hearts that are sensitive to the cries of the poor and attentive listeners to the people they serve.

The rite of ordination unfolded with deep solemnity as the candidates publicly expressed their commitment to a life of celibacy, obedience, and faithful service. In a moving moment of humility, they lay prostrate before the altar during the Litany of the Saints, invoking the intercession of the Church triumphant.

The ordinandi were subsequently vested with priestly vestments and welcomed into the priesthood with the kiss of peace.

As the celebration drew to a close, the Archbishop encouraged the new priests not to disappoint the efforts of all who had accompanied them on their vocational journey.

The newly ordained priests, in turn, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, their families, formators, and all who supported them.

Following their ordination, the newly ordained priests have received their pastoral assignments. Fr. Godwin Kwasi Kudzi, CSJ, has been posted to Brazil, where he will continue his priestly ministry in service to the People of God. Fr. Mamertus Adaklumegah, MCCJ, on the other hand, has been assigned to Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, New Achimota, where he will undertake his pastoral work.

Fr. Godwin Kwasi Kudzi, CSJ, was born on March 1, 1992, to Mr. Alex Kudzi and Mrs. Veronica Kpornyo Afi. He began his vocation with the Congregation of St. Joseph in 2014 and undertook his formation in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Chile, and Brazil. He completed his theological studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná, Brazil, and was ordained a Deacon on August 24, 2025.

Fr. Mamertus Adaklumegah, MCCJ, was born on May 11, 1993, to Mr. Benedictus Yao Adaklumegah and Madam Christiana Afua Sasah. He began his vocation with the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus in 2015 and received his formation in Ghana, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was ordained a Deacon on July 19, 2025, in Aného, Togo.
