The Bishop of the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese, the Most Rev. John Baptist Attakruh, has welcomed Catholic lay leaders from across Ghana to the 47th National Plenary Assembly of the National Catholic Laity Council (NCLC), urging them to deepen their commitment to the Church’s mission and national development.

Delivering his welcome address at the opening of the assembly at the St. Kizito Pastoral Centre in the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese, Bishop Attakruh expressed joy at hosting the gathering and described it as a significant moment for reflection, dialogue, and renewal for the Catholic laity in Ghana.

He noted that the presence of lay representatives from various archdioceses, dioceses, and Catholic organizations across the country highlights the important role the laity plays in the life and mission of the Church.

The bishop encouraged participants to use the plenary assembly as an opportunity to strengthen unity within the Church and to reflect on how lay Catholics can actively contribute to building a synodal Church that promotes justice, peace, and social transformation in Ghana.

Bishop Attakruh also emphasized the need for collaboration among bishops, priests, religious, and lay faithful, stressing that the Church’s mission can only be fulfilled when all members work together in harmony.

He further called on the laity to be ambassadors of the Gospel in their homes, workplaces, and communities, reminding them that their witness of faith and commitment to moral values are crucial for shaping society.

The 47th National Plenary Assembly of the National Catholic Laity Council has brought together lay leaders from across the country for several days of prayer, discussion, and deliberations aimed at strengthening the role of the laity in the Church and contributing to the development of the nation.

Bishop Attakruh expressed confidence that the gathering would inspire renewed dedication among participants and lead to fruitful outcomes for both the Church and Ghanaian society.
