“Be Agents of Justice and Peace” – Catholic Laity Chairman Charges Faithful

Must read

The National Chairman of the National Catholic Laity Council (NCLC), Sir John Kofi Tandoh, has called on Catholic lay faithful in Ghana to become active promoters of justice and peace in society.

He made the call at the opening of the 47th National Plenary Assembly of the NCLC, where Catholic lay leaders from across the country gathered to reflect on their role in the mission of the Church and national development.

Addressing participants, Mr. Tandoh urged the laity to embrace their responsibility as the voice of the Church in the wider society by upholding moral values and contributing positively to the country’s social and political life.

He explained that the plenary assembly, which is the highest decision-making body of the Council, provides an opportunity for lay leaders to review their activities, strengthen unity among members, and discuss strategies to advance the work of the Church in Ghana.

The gathering has brought together representatives from archdiocesan and diocesan laity councils as well as leaders of Catholic lay associations and organizations from across the country.

Mr. Tandoh noted that the assembly is also a moment for reflection on how the laity can work closely with bishops, priests, and religious to build a stronger and more vibrant Church.

The plenary assembly is being held under the theme “A Synodal Church at the Service of Justice and Peace in Ghana,” which encourages dialogue, participation, and collaboration among all members of the Church in addressing societal challenges.

Participants are expected to engage in prayer, discussions, and deliberations aimed at strengthening the lay apostolate and empowering Catholic faithful to play a more active role in promoting justice, peace, and development in Ghana.

The meeting is also expected to produce resolutions that will guide the activities of the National Catholic Laity Council and deepen the involvement of the laity in the life and mission of the Church.
