The 10th edition of the (Bishop Herman Old Boys Union (BHOBU) Games will be more than just alumni fun games — it will set the tone for Bishop Herman College’s 75th Anniversary celebration in 2027, a year Ghana also marks its 70th Independence anniversary.
This was the central message when a delegation of the BHOBU Games Planning Committee paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, at his office in Accra.
The Minister, who is an old boy of the 1993 Year Group and MP for Buem Constituency, captured the moment with a new slogan: “75 Over 70.”
“We are going to be 75, and Ghana will be 70. So it’s 75 over 70. That’s our slogan. In that spirit, the next edition of the BHOBU Games we want to organise next year should be in that spirit,” Hon. Adams said.
He noted that he is working behind the scenes with other old boys to get the leadership of the school rightly in place and to support infrastructure needs including new buses and other facilities, ahead of the landmark anniversary.
Led by its Chairman, Sylvester Kwame Kafui Mintah, the delegation formally invited the Minister to the 10th anniversary games and presented him with the official iconic BHOBU Games jersey.
Mr. Mintah revealed that what started in 2015 as a small social media idea and mobilization at Nania Park, Legon, has grown into the largest single-school alumni sports gathering in Ghana. From Nania Park to Tiers Park and Mensah Sarbah Hall, this year’s edition at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium is fully sponsored by an old boy who was impressed by the organization.
According to him, this year’s games will be a full package. Beyond football across three categories — the Tsitsi Group (1999-2007), the Legends penalty shootout, and the younger year groups — there will be Category B games including cards, PS5, and draft. The current school brass band and the NSMQ team that reached the quarter-finals have also been invited to connect current students to old boys.
To give back, the Committee charged each year group a GH¢500 commitment fee, raising GH¢9,000 for the school’s sports department. Hon. Adams topped it up with a personal pledge of GH¢10,000.
“The College made us what we are today. So that’s the little we can give back,” the Minister said.
Despite a tight schedule on Saturday, 19th September, 2026, the Minister assured the delegation he would be present to take his Legends penalty kick around 3pm.
The games kick off at 8:00am on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
