History will be made in Accra this October as Ghana becomes the first African country to host the World Assemblies of God Congress in the 115-year existence of the denomination.
This landmark announcement was made on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Assemblies of God Headquarters in Accra during a press conference addressed by the General Superintendent, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam.
The press conference was attended by the Assistant General Superintendent, members of the Executive Presbytery, church leadership, ministers of the church and members of the Planning Committee.
Rev. Wengam recounted that the 9th Triennial Congress was held in 2023 in Madrid, Spain, where the then Chairman of the Africa Assemblies of God Alliance, Rev. Barnabas Mtokambali of Tanzania, strongly proposed Ghana as host for the 10th edition.

He admitted that the church was under no illusion about the magnitude of the challenge, but “we plucked up divine faith to do the unthinkable and the God of perfect faithfulness has since rallied to our aid on a grand scale.”
To ensure successful organisation, Rev. Wengam said the church inaugurated a Local Organising Committee in 2024 chaired by Rev. Andrews Nelson Awintia, Greater Accra East Regional Superintendent, and a World Congress Secretariat headed by Gifty Agyei-Fiankoh.
He expressed satisfaction that both teams have so far proved equal to the gigantic task and prayed they maintain momentum to the finishing line.

The Congress is themed “COMMISSIONED: One Mandate, Every Nation”, which Rev. Wengam described not as a mere slogan but a strident call to win more souls and plant at least one million churches by 2033 to mark 2000 years of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Giving global statistics, he stated that Assemblies of God, with 89.9 million members and 451,000 local branches, is the largest Protestant church and fastest-growing denomination in the world, with 20 million members in Africa alone. Ghana has 10,077 branches with 1.2 million members.
Top global leaders expected include Global Chairman Rev. Dominic Yeo from Singapore and former President of Malawi, H.E. Rev. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
