The Accra East Grand Commandery, Knights of St John International, has inaugurated its newest Local Commandery, Mary Mother of God Commandery #1058, at Tema Community 25, DEVTRACO Courts.
The new Local Commandery, which falls directly under the 5th District of the Accra East Grand Commandery, KSJI, was inaugurated with the initiation of 19 new Brothers into the Noble Order on Saturday, 24th October, 2026.
The inauguration was preceded by a Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Edward Asadare Agbeobila, a Brother and Priest-in-Charge at Holy Rosary, Kasseh and its outstations at Kadanya and Addokope.
In his homily, Fr. Agbeobila reminded the new Brothers and Officers that to whom much is given, much is expected. He said Christians are called not only to give money but to give good influence in a world where bad influence is loud.
“The best way to let someone see that you are doing good is by doing good to them,” he said, urging the Brothers to practice a chain of goodness where each act of kindness inspires another.

Reflecting on the Gospel reading of the tower that fell and Pilate’s mixing of blood with sacrifices, Fr. Agbeobila cited recent tragedies in Ghana to underscore that death can come to anyone and is not a measure of sinfulness. He noted that being alive today is an opportunity given by God to correct one’s ways and live well, stressing that outward beautiful works alone will not save, but a life lived accountably before God.
He referenced the parable of the barren fig tree, explaining that just as the caretaker pleaded for another year for the tree to bear fruit, the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary pleads for more time for humanity. He charged the Brothers not to let Mary’s intercession be in vain.
Fr. Agbeobila also dwelt on the significance of the Order’s uniform and unity. According to him, doing things with one mind and one heart in uniform attracts others to the Order.
“It is not for nothing that in the beginning of the Acts of the Apostles, the writer writes that they were of one mind and one heart,” he said. He warned that the devil is a man of division and often uses human agents to bring division into societies.
He cautioned members against selective obedience and actions calculated to undermine leadership, noting that such attitudes make one an agent of division.
He therefore urged every Brother to examine his actions before speaking or deciding: “This thing I am doing, is it the work of God or is it the work of the devil? And if it is the work of God, do it. If it is the work of the other man, do not do it.”
He concluded that it is through such unity and good fruits — fruits that lead to eternal life and make God and St John the Baptist proud — that the Commandery will attract souls to salvation.
The highpoint of the ceremony was the initiation of 19 new Brothers into the Commandery, marking the formal establishment of Mary Mother of God Commandery #1058 as a Local Commandery under the 5th District of the Accra East Grand Commandery.
The Board of Trustees was subsequently installed to steer the affairs of the Local Commandery, with a call to lead with unity, humility and service.
