The 2022 consultation forum of the Department of Development and Social Services (DSS) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana opened on Wednesday at Abokobi in the Ga Presbytery of the Church in the Greater Accra Region.
The four-day event would afford managers of the 59 health institutions of the Church, including the six-agriculture stations and its relief organizations, to take stock of the previous year’s activities and chart a new way forward.
The forum would also be used to adopt policy decisions aimed at injecting modernization into its activities as well as share decisions taken at the conference with policymakers to promote good agricultural and health practices in communities where their facilities operate.
It has the theme: “Repositioning development and social services for spiritual and church growth in the 21st century and beyond.”
The Minister of Health who was the Special Guest of honour in a speech lauded the decision of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to establish churches and health institutions in rural areas. The Health Minister was optimistic that the agenda 111 District Hospital project by the government would be completed to ensure a universal health service for all.
The Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Dr. Peter Yeboah commended the Church for helping improve the holistic development of the Ghanaian child.
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, in opening remarks said the provision of social services was a core mandate Jesus Christ gave to humanity, hence the need to support the spiritual and social needs of communities in which the church operates.
The Department of Development and Social Services is headed by Mrs. Rebecca Teiko Sabah.
Present at the opening ceremony was the Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor.
