Alakple Citizens in Accra Attend Annual Thanksgiving Mass at OLA Catholic Church

The Chiefs and people of Alakple, a town in the Anlo District of Ghana’s Volta Region converged at the Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Catholic Church at New Achimota, Accra, for their annual Thanksgiving Mass to thank God Almighty for His continuous blessings on the citizenry.

The Mass on January 8, 2023, feast of the Epiphany Mass, was organised by the Alakple Development Association of the National Management Council (NMC), and presided over by Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Gnaha, MCCJ, Assistant Priest of OLA and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Johnny Hanson Agboli, MCCJ, whose maternal grandmother hails from Alakple.

Fr. Gnaha thanked the organisers of the annual Mass for choosing OLA Parish which has many Alakple citizens, who are doing marvelously well and expressed appreciation to the Chiefs and people of Alakple for coming together to thank God, a gesture he asked to be emulated by others.

Dignitaries present at the Thanksgiving Mass included Togbi Amey Zegu ll, Dufia (Chief) of Alakple and Amey Hlortator of Anlo; Togbi Agawu lll of Alakple, Sr. Gifty Anastasia Blewu, SMMC, Mr. Frank Augustine Dagbui, the Chairman of Alakple Development Association of National Management Council; Mr. Gbariel Atsu Avevor, 1st Vice Chirman of NMC; Mr. Frederick Penu, General Secretary of the NMC and Dumega Peter Deamesi, a former Chairman of NMC.

Also in attendance were hundreds of Alakple citizens domiciled in Accra, Ashaiman, Tema, Kasoa, Nsawam, Afienya and the members of the Alaska Youth Club, the youth wing of the Alakple.

The Mass coincided with the 60th birthday Thanksgiving Mass of Mrs. Elizabeth Gunu Agboli, who hails from Alakple and mother of Fr. Johnny Agboli.

Togbi Amey Zegu ll thanked God Almighty for His continuous blessing on the Alakple community and for producing Priests and Religious who are making the town proud in their various ministries.

He prayed for more vocations from Alakple to the priesthood and Religious Life.

Togbi Amey Zegu thanked the Alakple citizens both home and abroad for their continuous support for the growth of the town.

Some of the notable Priests and Religious from Alakple are the late Rev. Fr. John Kofi Tasiame, Sr. Doris Avevor, Rev. Bro. John Yao Deamesi, Rev. Fr. Paul Dogbey, Rev. Fr. Patrick Agbeko, Rev. Fr. Adaklumega, Rev. Fr. Jonny Hanson Agboli, Sr. Gifty Anastasia Blewu, Rev. Fr. Satanley Azameti and Rev. Fr. Eric Kplorla Dagbui.

At a get-together after the Mass, Mr. Dagbui urged all citizens to to pay their Easter levies on time through their branches since these monies are used to support the numerous developments being undertaken in the town.

He also called on the citizens to support the new executives of NMC.

The Vice President of the Alaska Youth Club, Mr. Gilbert Dagbui on behalf of the Youth lamented on how most Anlo Catholic parents do not speak their original mother tongue to their children and called on all Alakple Citizens to bring their children Home for this year Easter celebration.

He encouraged  the youth to avail themselves to celebrate this year’s Easter at Alakple which would be marked in a grand style.
