To seek God’s intervention as Ghana and the world battle the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic which has infected hundreds of thousands of people and claimed many lives across the globe, Christian leaders in Ghana will be leading the Christendom in a three-day National Prayer and Fasting programme which begins today, April 24, 2020.

The programme which is to be done virtually due to the ban on social gatherings including Church activities will end on Sunday, April 26, 2020.

It is being organised by the Christian Council of Ghana, the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches and all other Ecumenical Bodies in Ghana.

With the theme: “Oh God Heal Our Land” (2 Chronicle 7:14), the national programme is being organised in partnership with media institutions and will be broadcast on Radio, Television and live-streamed on the various social media outlets.

At a meeting with Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House on April 21, 2020 and attended by Religious leaders, Bishop Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, Chairman of the Christian Council said “All of us have come together to organize a three-day national prayer and fasting programme starting Friday through to Sunday this very week which is part of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how Ghana is also helping to fight it.”

The Bishop Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo who is also the presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana said Churches will do all their best to support the government to combat the pandemic, noting that though these are not normal times for Churches, “we have been able to give hope and a sense of healing to our members but will steadfastly look up to God for help through regular prayer and fasting.”

A three-day Prayer point has been put together during which Ghanaian Christians are expected to pray each day from 9:00am to 12 noon; 12 noon to 3:00pm and 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Each period has a theme, prayer point and scriptural reading to guide all Christians who will participate in the programme.

Some of the prayer points are “thank God for how far He has brought us a Nation even with the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic; thank God for the life of our President and the Wisdom He has given him to take decisions and measures to mitigate the consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic; thank God for the ninety-nine (99) and counting recoveries recorded in the nation and those recorded all over the world; thank God for the many individuals and corporate bodies that are donating in cash and kind to support the fight against the Pandemic and thank God for the lives of health workers worldwide, most especially, frontline staff, security services, the media and the government machineries for their unrelenting efforts and services they are providing for the nations.”

Below is the full prayer outline to serve as a guide to help members of the Christian Community pray along during the period of fasting and prayer. Other issues for prayer may be raised by individuals or small groups (families, home cells) as they are led by the Holy Spirit.
