The Lay Partners of the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries, Ghana Province, from the St. Arnold Janssen SVD Community in Tesano, Accra, on September 12, 2026, supported some of the vulnerable old ladies who have been labelled as Witches at Gusheagu in the Yendi Diocese of Ghana’s Northern Region.
The items were presented on behalf of the group by Rev. Fr. Nicholas Aazine, SVD, Coordinator for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) of the Ghana Province.

Present at the programme were SVD-administered Parish JPIC representatives, who had a two-day workshop at SVD Yendi House. The workshop was facilitated by Sr. Paschalina Gyereh, SSpS, Bro. John Akuffo, SVD and Rev. Fr. Nicholas Aazine, SVD.
On behalf of the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Isaac Anim-Ado, SVD, who is also one of the immediate caretakers of the camp, Rev. Fr. Bensasi Egidius Melchides, the Assisting Parish Priest, the SVD Yendi District Superior, Very Rev. Fr. Bere Blolong Bernadus, and one of the leaders of the old ladies received the items.

On behalf of the Provincial Superior of Ghana Province, Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Obeng, SVD, and the SVD Yendi District, Fr. Blolong, SVD, who is also a Provincial Councillor, thanked the SVD Lay Partners for their support. He added that “may the Lord in his goodness continue to bless you”
Rev. Fr. Agudu Phanuel Mayers, SVD, Director of the Old Ladies Camp, who had met the group earlier, also expressed his profound gratitude to the SVD Lay Partners for their “surprising support” to the ladies, the children and grandchildren.

The leader of the old ladies camp could not hold off her joy and gratitude. On behalf of the women, she said a big thank you to everyone, especially the SVD Lay Partners.
