Major Superiors in Ghana Call for Peaceful, Free and Fair Elections

Must read

In the light of the upcoming 2024 election, the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana (CMSR- GH) has reiterated their appeal for a peaceful, free and fair election.

The Conference briefed the press after its biannual meeting at the St. Arnold Janssen Spirituality Center at Bortianor Hills, Tuba in Accra on March 15, 2024.

The President of CMSR- GH, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Paul Saa- Dade Ennin SMA in his address reiterated the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference’s call for stakeholders to uphold democratic principles during the election.

The Conference strongly condemned election related violence and has stressed on the importance of preserving the rights of citizens in the country.

Fr. Ennin stressed the need for the citizens to be allowed to exercise their constitutional rights without coercion or intimidation.

“It is the sovereign right of the people of Ghana to decide who should govern them and no one should do anything that will thwart or distort this right of the people.” he said.

He also stated that “No one must lose his or her life in the exercise of his or her constitutional right to vote to determine who governs him or her”.

He therefore advised security agents and other organizations to perform their tasks properly to prevent violence during the elections.

He said “For this, we call on the security agents, party officials, the media, the Peace Council and the Electoral commission to do all in their power and prevent any actions or inactions that have the potential of creating violence.”

In their united plea for a restored and renewed nation, following the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025 celebration, they have urged all citizens to exercise their voting rights responsibly.
