The Our Lady of Assumption (OLA) Catholic Church at New Achimota, Accra would be hosting the 7th edition of the Kaneshie Deanery Catholic Youth Council Empowerment Seminar on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 8:00am to 2:00pm
The Seminar is expected to be attended by about 400 youths from 33 Parishes, Rectorates and Outstations in the Deanery with seasoned facilitators speaking on a Keynote topic: The Importance of Youth Empowerment: The Role of the Catholic Church and a discussion topic on: Job Pathways: The Entrepreneurial Conversation.
This Empowerment Seminar programme was instituted 10 years ago with the aim to help grow the youth into mature individuals for God and country Ghana.
As a flagship programme of the Kaneshie Deanery, it also seeks to give the youth the push they need in order to take control of their future and to equip them with the right tools and mindset to make better decisions for their future.
Above all, the Seminar seeks to help the participants to cultivate skills and discover their potentials for the necessary personal and professional development.
The 7th Edition to be hosted by OLA Parish on May 25 would most definitely be different if not much better as there are plans to have one-on-one engagement with reviewers on Curriculum Vitae (CV) Writing, Increased networking among participants, Exposure of Catholic Youth businesses and Opportunity to access funding and business coaching.
The Organisers have promised the participants practical approaches to business development as well as career development throughout the year.
Opened to the youth between 15 and 40 years of age with a participation fee of GHc40, they are expected to receive a certificate, lunch, and mentorship by some of the best personalities in the various sectors in our country… from academia to industry to legal and many more.
In an interview with newswatchgh.com, Margaret Atugumyuure, President of the OLA Parish Youth Council said the youth leadership “is adequately preparing to host about 400 participants, and like other editions, this year promises new innovations.”
According to her, there had been a series of meetings at the Kaneshie Deanery and OLA Parish levels to ensure the Seminar is well organised and patronised. She appealed to Parishes to sponsor their youths to participate in the Seminar which would inure to their benefit in future.
Within the 10 years of the institution of the Seminar, there had been high profile personalities who spoke on various topics. They include Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, Mrs. Victoria Kumbour, Mr. Bernard Avle, Hon. Nana Oye Bampoe (Formerly Nana Oye Lithur), , Mrs. Mawuena Trebarh, Mr. Patrick Otieku Boadu, Prof. Stephen Adei, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, Mr. Martin Tetteh Nartey, Ms. Linda Adadevor and Ms. Maura Cranny Ntow.
