About 250 Ghanaian youth would be beneficiaries of the first phase of a skills training project dubbed ‘The Ghana Project’, which was launched on Saturday, April, 6, 2024, at the Don Bosco Training Institute at Ashiaman in the Greater Accra Region.

Italian President, Sergio Mattarella, launched the project as part of his official visit to Ghana to foster international collaboration between Ghana and Italy.

The Ghana project is spearheaded by Confindustria Alto Aldriatico (Confederation of Italian Industries), Salesians of Don Bosco, West Africa South Province (AOS), VIS Ghana, UMANA Spa, and Italian employment services agency.

At the heart of this partnership is Don Bosco Training Institute, which will offer quality skills training with its equipment and resources.

Subsequently, VIS Ghana, an Italian non-governmental organisation, working in solidarity with Don Bosco Training Institute, will provide Italian language courses to facilitate integration of the trainees while UMANA Spa would be in-charge of recruiting the trainees to work in Italy.

Mr. Mattarella described the Ghana project as a good opportunity for Ghanaian youth to acquire skills and also to work in Italy, adding that the initiative was within the framework of friendship between Italy and Ghana.

“We have really entered into a number of convergence of ideas and opinions and we were in full sink of all these subjects with the firm willingness of both parties to further enhance cooperation between Italy and Ghana…We have to pull together our respective capacities because we want to grow together and this is the way forward,” he said.

Rev. Fr. Mark Eshun, Principal, Don Bosco Training Institute, said the partnership between Ghana and Italy would encourage the Institute to train more people and provide the required human resources for national development.

He called for more collaboration in acquiring the necessary equipment and resources which would enhance skills training in various training institutions.

“A skill acquired is something nobody can take away from you; I encourage young people to use any skill they acquire to contribute to development within or outside the country and for their personal growth,” he said.

Present at the launch was the Deputy Minister of foreign and international cooperation, Mr. Edmondo Cirielli, Greater Accra Regional Minister-designate, Hon. Titus Glover, Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development.

The rest are Hon. Osei-Bonsu Amoah, Minister of State at Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development; Ambassador of Italy to Ghana, H. E Daniela d’Orlandi; Ambassador of Ghana to Italy, H.E Mrs. Merene Benyah, representatives of Salesians of Don Bosco, Staff and students of Don Bosco Training Institute.
