As part of his official visit to Ghana, President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, paid a visit to Don Bosco Training Institute at Ashiaman on Saturday, April 6, 2024, where he launched the initiative dubbed the ‘Ghana Project’.

The project aims to develop the skills of 250 Ghanaian youth in practical aspects such as welding, catering, forklift operations, and others.

Mr. Mattarella, accompanied by his daughter Laura Mattarella and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Edmondo Cirielli, toured facilities at the Don Bosco Training Institute upon their arrival.

He assessed facilities at the hospitality, solar, and automobile departments of the Institute, and expressed admiration at the Institute’s progress in providing vocational training for the youth in the country.

“If we want to have a common future, the common future is entrusted in the hands of youth but the youth has to be trained and this is exactly what happens at the center and this is exactly the core of the visit I paid here.

“Another thing that struck me as I was visiting the center was the Salesian spirit that transpires around all the activities, and it really reflects this image of Don Bosco surrounded by the youth,” Mr. Mattarella said.

He commended the partnership between Confindustria Alto Aldriatico( Confederation of Italian Industries) and Salesians of Don Bosco for the Ghana project which will give opportunity for Ghanaian youth to acquire skills and work in Italy.

He said the Ghana project was within the framework of fostering deeper collaboration between Italy and Ghana.

Fr. Chris Nizniak, the PDO director of Don Bosco, on behalf of the Salesians and Staff of Don Bosco Training Institute, presented a gift to Mr. Sergio Mattarella during his visit to the institute.

President Mattarella’s official visit to Ghana included meetings with President Akufo-Addo and other senior government officials to discuss other subjects of mutual partnerships and development.
