Sister Communicators in Ghana Receive Training on Feature Writing

Sister Communicators in Ghana have received training on feature article writing as part of a Media and Communication training at Santase-Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Mr. Gameli Attipoe, a Media Practitioner and one of the facilitators of the training, who took the Sister Communicators through the skills of writing a feature writing, explained feature writing as a style of writing that is used to inform, educate and engage readers about a particular issue or event.

In his delivery, he focused on the elements that go into feature writing, making the participants aware that this type of writing is the opposite of news writing in which opinions, interviews, styles and researched facts are included.

According to him, it is often of a more in-depth writing than the traditional news writing, stating that, it is commonly used in newspapers and magazines, to provide a more human perspective on a topic or issue.

He explained that the types of feature writing include: human angle stories, human interest stories, interviews, humour, criticism, sarcasm, personality features.

This type of writing, he added, helps the writer to expand version of news, present hard news as soft news.
