Sister Communicators in Ghana Urged to be Vibrant

Sr. Theodora Adzayawo, SMMC, the Executive Secretary of the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana (CMSR-GH), has urged Sister Communicators to be vibrant in their reportage in telling their own stories.

Sr. Adzayawo who delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Conference during the opening ceremony of a skills training on media and communication for Sister Communicators, currently ongoing at the Centre for Spiritual Renewal, Santase-Kumasi, stressed the need for Sister Communicators to make themselves visible.

She said the formation of this network of Women Religious in media and communication, became necessary after an experience with the Sister Communicators in some East African countries during the 2022 Hilton Foundation Convening in Nairobi, Kenya.

According to her, the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana under the leadership of Sr. Mercy Boateng, SSL, in 2022, petitioned the Conrad Hilton Foundation to enable it have this idea established.

She said this was due to the fact that Ghana was lacking in terms of Religious Women telling their own stories, adding that, the Hilton Foundation is currently sponsoring one other programme, which is care for the Aged Sisters in Ghana under the leadership of the Society of the Infant Jesus.

Sr. Adzayawo mentioned that the Conference has procured some gadgets for the Sister Communicators which would be presented to the Sisters after the programme, entreating them to handle the gadgets with care.

She reminded them that the gadgets are not for personal use but to help them in executing their communication and media activities.

She urged the Sisters not to be discouraged by their number, but be encouraged that they are people of light to shine and yeast to help the rising of media communication activities among the Religious in Ghana.

Sr. Esther Kutie, SVI, in her solidarity message on behalf of the Sister participants, assured the Conference that, the Sisters were ready and willing to participate fully in the activities of the workshop. She believed this would help shape and prepare them for the media market.

She also assured the facilitators and the donor partner, Conrad Hilton Foundation that they would make them proud. She further pledged that they would make good use of the knowledge to be acquired for the benefit of their respective congregations and the Church in Ghana.

Mr. Robert Dela Mawuenyegah, the Executive Director of Global Newswatch Media and Communications, media partner and facilitators for the workshop, in his solidarity message, urged the Sisters “to think on their feet”.

He told them not to kill the opportunity given them but to work hard to make their stories known. He assured them that the training session is a holistic package for them, and encouraged them not to be afraid of the use of social media and modern technologies, but to explore to make themselves visible.
