WHO Warnings on Africa Becoming COVID-19 Epicenter is a Wake-up Call – Zambian President

Must read

Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Sunday said he was concerned by recent warnings by the World Health Organization (WHO) that Africa could potentially become the next global epicenter of COVID-19.

The Zambian leader said the warning from the WHO should cause African countries to enhance their intervention measures to curtail the further spread of the pandemic.

“The above should be taken only as a timely warning of what we risk to bring upon ourselves if we continue to refuse to do the basics,” he said in a statement on his Facebook page.

According to him, the basic demands of hand washing, wearing masks, avoiding public gatherings and physical distancing among others have to be followed if the battle was to be won.

The Zambian leader noted that any country could become the next epicenter if the presided measures were not followed.

Zambia has so far recorded a total of 61 cases and three deaths.
