The Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Hohoe Gborxome in the Catholic Diocese of Ho in Ghana’s Volta Region, has climaxed its 40th anniversary with a Mass, fundraising and breaking of grounds for the commencement of a new Church building.

The Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, SVD, Bishop of Ho Diocese, who presided over the Mass on June 9, 2024, charged the faithful to extend their woks to other areas in Hohoe by opening more outstations.

He thanked parishioners who played vital roles in founding of the Parish.

He enumerated some challenges the founding members might had faced in building the Church as compared to the challenges Jesus faced when he was accused of using the prince of demons to cast out devils.

The Bishop appreciated the foundation members and exhorted the faithful to follow in their footsteps.

The 40th anniversary celebration which was on the theme: The lord has done great things for us, indeed we were glad’ (Psalm 126:3), was launched on August 20, 2023, with a talk on the power of faith by Rev. Fr. Christopher Latsebi, Parish Priest.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the Parish celebrated a traditional wear day, where the parishioners colourfully displayed their traditions through their outfits, celebration of Holy Matrimony for six couples, Baptism for 75 catechumen, excursion, PAX week and workshop for children.

During this year’s Easter celebration, there was another Baptism for 120 catechumen, and in May there was confirmation for 91 candidates all being part of the anniversary celebration.

For the climax, the Parish had a week-long programme which started with a talk after Mass on Sunday June 2, 2024 on the topic: “40th anniversary celebration; our achievements, failures and the way forward” held at the Church premise.

Other activities organised as part of the climax were by the Fire Side to listen and to tell the story of the Parish, a float through the principal streets of Hohoe to announce their big event.

After the Mass, there was fundraising in aid of putting up a new Church building since the current chapel can no longer contain the congregants even though two masses are held on Sundays.

Bishop Fianu also broke the grounds for the commencement of the building project. Some outstanding members of the Church together with the founding members were honoured with awards for their contribution to the growth of the Church.

In 1984, the then Parish Priest of St. Augustine Church at Hohoe, Rev. Fr. John Adamfo declared his intention to create Holy Mass Centres in the St. Augustine Church namely: Bla, Kреmе, Abansi and Gborxome to facilitate easy administration of the Parish.

The Bishop of then Keta-Ho Diocese Rt. Rev. Francis Kofi Anani Lodonu approved the idea and this led to the establishment of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Gborxome.
