The Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, an Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra has told members of the Christian Mothers’ Association (CMA) of the Archdiocese that there are many spiritual lessons to be leant from the life of Mary who is the model of motherhood.
“As you gather for this special Christian Mothers Conference, we extend our heartfelt greetings to you,” he stated in a goodwill message to the CMA at the opening of its Biennial Conference on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra.
Addressing hundreds of Mothers coming from the eight deaneries of the Accra Archdiocese, Bishop Asare who represented the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp said, “As you celebrate the incredible gift of Motherhood and the unique calling of each one of you as women of faith, you are the heart of our communities and the body of Christ.”
As part of the opening ceremony, Bishop Asare unveiled a new cloth for the Association in the Accra Archdiocese and prayed that Mothers would wear it with humility and reverence to depict the tenets of the Association.
The new cloth has the symbols of the Christian Mothers, Christian Fathers, Christian Sons and daughters depicting the Holy Family of Mothers, Fathers and children.
The CMA leadership led by the Archdiocesan President, Mother Eunice Dumashie presented a cheque for GHc20,000 to support the Legacy of Hope Children’s Hospital project of the Archdiocese.
The legacy of Hope Project was launched on January 16, 2022 by Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, Archbishop of Accra. The site for the children’s hospital project is at Adjen Kotoku.
“On behalf of the Archbishop of Accra, I thank you for the 20,000 and donations you have been making in the Archdiocese and beyond,” he said.
Bishop Asare toured an exhibition mounted by Mothers from all the Deaneries showcasing their items which included food, clothing, detergents, Sacramentals, pottery and others.
The five-day Conference from September 4 to 8 is being attended by hundreds of delegates from the eight Deaneries of the Archdiocese- Kaneshie, Kpehe, Osu, Mamprobi, Madina, Ashaiman, Tema and Battor-Ada.
The Conference would be climaxed with a Mass on Sunday, September 8, 2024, the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Nana Kugbeadzor Bakateyi II, Queen Mother of Likpe-Gudeve in the Oti Region, who is the Regional Director of Education for Bono Region and the Dean for Regional Directors of Education, Ghana.
The Guest Speaker was Prof. Patricia Akweongo Cassoma, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the University of Ghana and a parishioner of St. Bakhita Catholic Church, Community 20 in Accra Archdiocese.
Present were the National Spiritual Director of CMA, Very Rev. Fr. Alfons Amanor, SVD and some Deanery Spiritual Directors; some National Officers of CMA and representatives of the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW).
