The Accra Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Formation Centre has benefitted from the generosity of the Archdiocesan Catholic Women Council, receiving essential kitchen equipment including a deep freezer, an oven, two gas stoves, cooking utensils, cutlery, and other items.
The Council raised funds for this initiative during their World Union of Catholic Women Organization (WUCWO) Day celebration, held at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Nungua.
Prior to the presentation on Monday, 16th December 2024, the Council also undertook refurbishment works to prepare the kitchen for the donated items.
The simple presentation ceremony was led by the Director of the Youth Formation Centre, Rev. Fr. Alphonse Bulloro, who blessed both the items and the newly refurbished kitchen.
The leadership of the Women Council marked the occasion by cutting the ribbon that sealed the entrance to the kitchen.
In her remarks, Mrs. Mary Baffoe Ashun, Chairperson of the Accra Archdiocesan Catholic Women Council, emphasized that, as mothers and women of the Archdiocese, they recognized the need to make the Youth Centre’s kitchen a “home away from home” for all visitors, particularly the youth. She revealed that the total cost of the refurbishment and donated items amounted to approximately GHC50,000.
Mrs. Ashun expressed gratitude to Mrs. Rita Amivi Worth Seddoh, Secretary of the Council, and Auntie Rita for their dedication in soliciting additional support from individuals and organizations to make the project a success.
She further noted the Council’s desire to continue fundraising to provide even more resources for the kitchen.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Youth Centre and the youth of the Archdiocese, Mr. Augustine Kwame Dagbey, Chairperson of the Accra Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Council (AADCYC), expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Women Council.
He commended their thoughtfulness and prayed for God’s blessings upon the leadership and all who contributed to the project.
In his closing remarks, Rev. Fr. Bulloro highlighted the significant impact the donations will have, particularly in easing the preparation of meals for seminarians and other groups who visit or lodge at the Youth Centre.
The event concluded with an inventory of the items, which included a deep freezer, blender, gas stoves, ovens, cutlery, and various cooking utensils, taken by the Youth Chairperson.
