The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev. Dr. K. Boafo, has exhorted members of the Church to let not their hearts be troubled in the face of coronavirus as stringent measures are being taken to prevent the spread of disease in the country.
The Bishop re-echoed the words of Jesus in a letter containing directives to all Diocesan Bishops and members of the Church to suspend all church services as directed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The letter seen by newswatchgh.com also stated that all educational institutions of the Methodist Church are closed until further notice. “The Issue of the Novel Coronavirus which has become a global plague is most worrying. We believe in the power of God to end this epidemic. We, nonetheless, encourage all our health institutions to improve their services to Ghanaians in these troubling times, whilst they safeguard their safety,” the statement said.
“It is my prayer that this COVID-19 pandemic will increase our faith in God and trust Him for His abiding presence,” the Methodist Presiding Bishop added.
President Akufo-Addo on March 15, 2020, issued some directives which include a charge to suspend all church activities and other religious gatherings for four weeks.
Ghana, as of March 17, 2020, 15:00 GMT, has recorded 7 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 according to the Ghana Health Service. The 7th case is a 35-year-old male patient, a Ghanaian citizen, who returned to Accra from France within the past 14 days.
