Accra Archdiocese: Priests, Parents Cautioned to Prepare 13 Years and Above for Confirmation

Must read

The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, has cautioned Priests and parents to desist from presenting Candidates below the age of 13 years for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

According to him, the qualified age to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation is 13 years and above in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra.

The Archbishop gave this caution during his pastoral visit to the St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church, Abeka as part of his Pastoral Visits to Parishes in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra.

In an interview with the Archbishop, he noted, “We expect the candidates to be baptized and communicants, followed the biblical teachings, sacramental and catechetical life of the Church before they can be confirmed.” On the other hand, they are already adults who have followed the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) programme.

He added, “We expect the basic teachings of the Church are known by the candidates of the sacrament of confirmation”.

Archbishop Kwofie admonished Priests and parents to teach the candidates the biblical and catechetical teachings of the Church in order for them to become “adult Christians “ and “soldiers of Christ”. This enables them to answer the questions their colleagues or society ask them.

Archbishop Kwofie also noted that the candidates should have the ability to profess and explain their faith, emphasizing the need for candidates to be at least 13 years. In addition, they must know the intimate connection between the sacrament of confirmation and life of the whole Christian.
