“Let Love and Joy Be the Engine of Everything You Do as Priests” – Archbishop Kwofie To New Priests

Must read

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, has called on newly ordained Catholic priests to allow love and joy to define their ministry, describing these virtues as the true measure of authentic priestly service.

The Archbishop gave this charge during the priestly ordination of Rev. Godwin Kwasi Kudzi, CSJ, and Rev. Mamertus Adaklumegah, MCCJ, held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, New Achimota.

Addressing the newly ordained priests, Archbishop Kwofie stressed that priestly formation must lead to a visible transformation in lifestyle, attitude, and service to God’s people.

“There is no use in all the years of formation if you have not learned to do things differently,” he cautioned.

The Archbishop urged the priests to ground their ministry in the lived reality of the baptized faithful, reminding them that priesthood is a service exercised within the community of believers, not above it.

Calling them to be men of deep prayer and faithful proclamation, he encouraged them to preach the Gospel consistently and to anchor their ministry in humility, patience, and spiritual maturity.

“We draw closer to God when we live humbly, and through patience and endurance, the life of Christ radiates in us,” he said.

Archbishop Kwofie explained that priestly ministry exists to foster unity in faith and to equip God’s people for works of service. He emphasized that the mission of the priest extends beyond the sanctuary and must respond to the needs and struggles of the people.
