Past OLA Girl Sandra Barbara Annor Honoured as District Best Nurse/Midwife 2026

Sandra Barbara Annor, a dedicated nurse and midwife and an alumnus of Our Lady of Apostles Girls Senior High School (OLA Girls), Ho, has been named the District Best Nurse/Midwife 2026 for South Tongu District by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Volta Region.

The award recognises nurses and midwives who have distinguished themselves through outstanding service, initiatives, and innovations that create a significant impact on clients and their communities.

Sandra Annor has been honoured for her consistent commitment, particularly her community outreach efforts and innovative approaches that have improved healthcare delivery in the South Tongu district.

In an interview with Newswatchgh.com, Sandra Annor expressed her gratitude and a sense of honour for the award given to her.

She said, “I felt honoured and grateful for being selected by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association. It means my community work was being noticed by colleagues and my line managers.”

She described the award as an acknowledgement for her “quiet efforts, like home visits and innovations implemented to facilitate her work.”

Sandra Annor noted that these impactful efforts benefited clients and changed lives quiet but impactful efforts.

She added, “It also means motivation to keep improving on my work.”

While highlighting her sacrifices and efforts at work, she stated some of the challenges she faces in her role, especially in preventive nursing and reproductive health services.

“The myths and misconceptions surrounding family planning services and contraceptive use remain challenging,” she explained, “but then there are diverse ways to reach clients.”

Despite these difficulties, particularly when working in remote areas, Sandra Annor stated that the impact of her work serves as a motivation.

Additionally, she encouraged young men and women who wish to take up her career to look at the fact that they would “become someone’s hope by saving life” despite the challenges faced.

Sandra Barbara Annor, who was in the 1993 Science class of OLA Girls, is a preventive nurse at the Public Health unit of the District Hospital in Sogakope.

Her line of work centres on maternal and child health, family planning services, nutrition services, expanded programming on immunisations, and youth-friendly services.
