Ghana’s Sports Minister Pledges Full Support for 10th Edition of BHOBU Games

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has pledged his full support for the 10th edition of the Bishop Herman Old Boys Union (BHOBU) Games, describing the event as a powerful platform for reconnecting old friends.

“I think we appreciate these Alumni Games. They are supposed to reconnect what was in school… The rivalry, the adrenaline level goes up, all the enthusiasm attached to it. Then you leave school, and you go separate ways. Sometimes you are not even able to meet again… But sports have a way of bringing people together,” he said.

The Minister made the remarks when a three-member delegation of the BHOBU Games Planning Committee, led by its Chairman, Sylvester Kwame Kafui Mintah, paid a courtesy call on him at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

The delegation formally invited the Minister, who is himself an old boy of Bishop Herman College (BIHECO) and Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, to the anniversary games. They noted that the games, which began in 2015, have grown into the largest single-school alumni sports gathering in Ghana.

“So times like this are able to at least bring us together again. We share ideas, we see where we can support each other and even support our school. I’m happy that you’ve done this and you have sustained it continually for 10 years,” Hon. Adams added.

He assured the delegation that he would join the activities later in the day, particularly the legends’ penalty kicks scheduled for the afternoon, before proceeding to other commitments.

Additionally, the Minister pledged GH¢10,000 to support the sports department of his alma mater as part of activities linked to the 10th anniversary.

“The College made us what we are today. So that’s the little we can give back,” he said.

Mr. Mintah indicated that the games, expected to kick off at 8:00am on Saturday, 19th September, 2026, will feature football competitions across age groups, a legends’ penalty shootout, and indoor games.

The BHOBU Games Planning Committee delegation included Robert Dela Mawuenyegah and Rev. Francis Edzorna Doe, who presented the official iconic BHOBU Games jersey to the Minister.
