Caritas Ghana has emphasised the need for greater individual participation in charitable and humanitarian activities as it prepares to celebrate its maiden Caritas Week from November 8 to 15, 2026.
The Executive Director of Caritas Ghana, Mr Richard Nyaaba Akurugu, said the celebration seeks to raise awareness of charity and humanitarian work while encouraging members of the Catholic Church to take an active role in supporting people in need.
He made this known during a media briefing at the National Catholic Secretariat in Accra on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Mr Akurugu explained that the initiative was intended to help people understand the work of Caritas and strengthen the Church’s commitment to serving vulnerable persons.

He noted that charitable work should not be seen as the responsibility of Caritas alone but as a shared responsibility that requires the involvement of individuals across the Church.
The week-long celebration will feature talks and engagements on various topics relating to the Church and charity, providing opportunities to deepen understanding of the importance of serving others.
Caritas Ghana, the national development and humanitarian arm of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, works to promote the Church’s social mission and respond to the needs of poor and marginalised communities.
The maiden Caritas Week Celebration will be held under the theme “The Lord is the refuge of the poor” (cf. Psalm 14:6), with the campaign line “A refuge for the poor: love in action.” The celebration seeks to remind Catholics that caring for people in need is a shared responsibility that calls for practical expressions of love and solidarity.
