Must read

Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam has been formally inducted as General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana for a second four-year term, at a colourful ceremony held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The service also saw the outdooring of the new Executive Presbytery Officers of the church.

The induction service was attended by high-profile dignitaries including the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, who was the Special Guest of Honour, Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, Rev. Dominic Yeo, colleague General Superintendents from across the world, Ministers of State, Heads of Churches and thousands of members and clergy.

In his induction address, Rev. Wengam expressed gratitude to God for His grace over the church, describing his first term as “grace galore.”

He disclosed that under his first tenure, the church planted 2,077 churches in four years, growing the total number of local assemblies to 10,077 and increasing membership from 812,254 to 1.2 million.

Rev. Wengam also highlighted the Legacy Temple Project, an initiative to end worship under trees and in dilapidated structures. He revealed that since 2024, 177 Legacy Temples have been built by individual members and churches.

He singled out President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama, who have built 10 fully furnished Legacy Temples with two-bedroom pastoral residences, while he and his wife have also built 10 Temples from their salaries at the Headquarters. The CEO of First Sky Group, Deacon Eric Seddy Kutortse and his wife, are also constructing 50 Legacy Temples.

Transformation Agenda Continues

Rev. Wengam said his second term will not reinvent the wheel but will put the Transformation Agenda “into the highest spiritual gear.”

The Agenda, he explained, rests on six pillars: Reach, Rebuild, Restore, Reposition, Rebrand and Reform.

Key among them is the “Every City, Every Village, a Church” project under the REACH pillar, and the ambitious Centenary City Project – a 6,000-seater state-of-the-art International Convention Centre on a 137-acre land donated by Mr. Sekyi, a non-member of the church, to mark the church’s centenary in 2031.

“The architectural designs are ready… It shall be built with supernatural speed,” Rev. Wengam assured.

He added that the church will give heightened attention to the World Assemblies of God Fellowship’s MM33 target to plant one million churches by 2033 and will intensify its local and international missionary work.

Touching on national issues, Rev. Wengam commended government for economic recovery efforts but called for urgent job creation for the youth and a national crusade to arrest moral decay and incivility in politics and the media.

Mahama: Second Term is a Chance to Deepen Reforms

In his address, President Mahama congratulated Rev. Wengam and the new Executive Presbytery Officers, describing Assemblies of God as his family church.

“For Lordina and I, this occasion has a deeply personal meaning. Assemblies of God is our family,” the President said.

President Mahama, who described himself as an “expert on second terms,” said a second term offers a distinct opportunity to deepen worthwhile reforms and ensure progress reaches local congregations.

Quoting Mark 10:43, he reminded leaders that true greatness lies in service. He pledged government’s continued partnership with the church and reiterated his commitment to lead fundraising efforts for the Centenary City Project without state funding.

Rev. Wengam was inducted alongside his wife, who was charged by Rev. Dominic Yeo to continue to be a pillar of strength, intercession and wisdom.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Induction Service Planning Committee, Rev. Andrews N. Awintia, had set the tone for the historic occasion. He warmly welcomed all congregants, clergy and dignitaries, expressing profound gratitude to God for His faithfulness to the church.

Rev. Awintia specially acknowledged H.E. John Dramani Mahama, Rev. Dominic Yeo and all visiting church leaders for honouring the invitation, noting that their presence underscored the significance of the induction. He described the service as both a celebration of grace and a renewed commitment to the Transformation Agenda, and thanked the planning committee and all volunteers for their dedication to making the ceremony a success.

The service was on the theme: “The Transformation Agenda Continues.”
