The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) has paid a courtesy call on the Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, at the Amaniampong Silver Stool Palace in Mampong as part of activities marking its 2026 Plenary Assembly.
The delegation, led by the Archbishop of Kumasi, Most Rev. Gabriel Justice Yaw Anokye, formally announced the Bishops’ presence in the traditional area, acknowledged the Mamponghene’s ongoing support for the Catholic Church, and sought his blessings for the week-long programme.
The 11-day assembly, scheduled for November 3 to 14 at the Divine Providence Pastoral Centre, Jamasi, centers on the theme “Communion, Participation and Mission: Preparing the Catholic Church in Ghana for her 150th Anniversary.”

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Archbishop Anokye expressed appreciation to the Mamponghene for his support of the Church, noting that traditional authorities play a vital role in fostering peace and supporting religious activities across the region.
He explained that the courtesy call forms part of the Conference’s broader engagements with key traditional leaders throughout the assembly.
In his remarks, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III commended the Catholic Church for its immense contributions to national development, particularly in education, healthcare, peacebuilding, and social interventions.
“The Catholic Church in Ghana cannot be left out when mentioning institutions that have driven development in our country from peacebuilding to education and social welfare. I commend you for your steadfast leadership,” the Mamponghene said.

He wished the Bishops fruitful deliberations and urged the Church to continue serving as a beacon of progress and development for the nation.
He also appealed to the Conference to keep Mampong in mind for future developmental projects.
“I wish you well in your programme, but please do not forget to include Mampong in your future developmental plans,” he added.
On behalf of the Bishops, the delegation extended heartfelt gratitude to the Mamponghene for the warm reception, offering prayers for God’s guidance, strength, and wisdom in his leadership of the traditional area.
