Catholic Journalists in Ghana Pledge Support for Maiden Caritas Week Celebration

Must read

Catholic media practitioners have pledged their support for the maiden Caritas Week Celebration slated for November 8 to 15, 2026.

The commitment was made during a media briefing at the National Catholic Secretariat in Accra on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, where Caritas Ghana engaged Catholic communicators to discuss plans for the celebration.

The Catholic media practitioners present suggested, among other things, to partner with Caritas Ghana and offer their media platforms to drive the Caritas Week campaign.

They also suggested that the Caritas National Office should identify strategic Ambassadors, key personalities and stakeholders to support the maiden celebration in Ghana.

The Executive Director of Caritas Ghana, Mr Richard Nyaaba Akurugu, who led the briefing, welcomed the suggestions, noting that the media remained a critical partner in driving the campaign line, “A refuge for the poor: love in action,” and the broader theme, “The Lord is the refuge of the poor” (cf. Psalm 14:6).

He explained that Caritas Week seeks to make charity a way of life and not just an activity of Caritas alone, adding that the support of communicators would help bring the message to parishes, schools, youth groups and communities across the country.

Present were Catholic media practitioners drawn from Lumen Christi TV, The Catholic Standard, https://Newswatchgh.com, Catholic Trends, Catholics for Social Media, Catholic Sister Communicators Network – Ghana and Diocesan DEPSOCOM Directors.

Also present were representatives of the Catholic Education Unit, staff of the National Catholic Secretariat and Caritas Ghana.

Caritas Ghana is the development and humanitarian arm of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, mandated to promote human dignity, solidarity and social justice through service to poor and marginalised communities.

The maiden Caritas Week Celebration will be observed across all Archdioceses, Dioceses, Parishes and Church institutions in Ghana, culminating in Caritas Sunday on November 15, 2026.
