Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell, of the Congregation of the Society of Divine Word (SVD), has been conferred with the Ultimate Christian Honour for Compassion, of over 50 years of impact, by the Christian Community of Ghana.
Fr. Campbell is the Founder of the Father Campbell SVD Foundation at New Weija, Accra, Ghana. Under this Foundation are the Lepers’ Aid Committee, the Mother Teresa Soup Kitchen, Rural Development, and Mother and Child Health Care.
The honour was conveyed in a Citation presented to Fr. Campbell on Saturday April 25, 2026, at the Kempiski Hotel, Accra, signed by Mr. Kofi Kpodo, Executive Director.

The Honouraree Citation to Fr. Campbell, in the Class of Humanitarian Service and Leprosy Advocacy was conferred under the theme: “Honouring on the Pillars of Reputation, Recognition and Integrity”.
The Irish Missionary was recognized for faithful service, Godly leadership, and enduring impact of more than five decades of radical compassion and service to the most marginalized in Ghanaian society.
According to the Citation, the life’s work of the SVD Priest, known affectionately as the “Leper Priest,” has transformed the public perception of leprosy, moving it from a state of stigma to one of dignity and care. His ministry has been a consistent beacon of hope, providing not just spiritual solace but the physical infrastructure for survival and rehabilitation.

The Citation further lauded his extraordinary impact, immortalized through the founding of the Lepers Aid Committee (LAC) in 1993, which has established and continues to run vital leprosaria in Weija, Ho, Nkanchina and Kokofu, alongside the establishment of the Christ the King Soup Kitchen, to feed street children in Accra.
The Christian Community of Ghana, counts it both a privilege and a Sacred duty to confer on Fr. Campbell, the Ultimate Christian Honour for Compassion, as his labour in the Lord’s vineyard has borne much fruit, and his life continues to stand as a testimony of faith, sacrifice, and integrity.
