Priests, Religious Must Strengthen Home Visitations – Archbishop of Accra

Must read

The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra has called on the Clergy and Religious to intensify theirs visit to the homes of the lay faithful.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana on March 13, 2024 at the Arnold Janssen Spirituality Centre at Bortianor Hill, Tuba in Accra, he explained that although home visitations were not sacramental obligations, it was important for Priests, Religious, Catechists and all who loved the Church to visit people in their homes.

He said these as a result of the declining population of Catholics in Ghana in recent times.

In his address, Archbishop Kwofie mentioned that Priests were not only meant to celebrate Mass but also to visit both Catholic and non-Catholic homes as a way of evangelisation.

“Your priesthood is not only to say Mass. Your priesthood is for everything. We visit homes whether they are Catholics or not”, he noted, and added that it was through these visitations that bring about Outstations in communities.

“By visiting homes, someone will whisper in your ears that there are Catholics in that vicinity far away from the Church and they need an Outstation. This is how an outstation starts”, he said.

Present at the ceremony were Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, Apostolic Vicar of Donkorkrom and Episcopal chair for priests and religious in Ghana and Very Rev. Fr. Paul Saa- Dade Ennin, SMA, President of the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana.

The Conference of Major Superiors of Religious was established in Ghana on 23rd August, 2013. Today, it comprises about seventy members of both Religious men and women.
