The Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana (CMSR- GH) in a Press Conference at the conclusion of its biannual meeting at the Arnold Janssen Spirituality Centre at Bortianor Hills, Tuba, Accra, have expressed their readiness for the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025, themed “Pilgrims of Hope”.
Inspired by Pope Francis’ call to make 2024 a year of prayer in preparation for the Jubilee celebration, the Religious Leaders in Ghana have invited all to heed to the voice of God.
Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Paul Saa- Dade Ennin SMA, President of the CMSR-GH addressing the Media on Friday, March 15, 2024 said, “It is a prophetic moment during which everyone is called to listen the voice of the Lord and witness to the Gospel values of justice, reconciliation, peace and solidarity”.
A Jubilee Year is a Sacred Year celebrated every 25 years as a “Year of God’s favor” as written in the Book of Prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 61:1-4) and proclaimed by Jesus in Luke 4:18-19. It is a moment of grace, a “Kairos moment” of restoration and reconciliation (Leviticus 25:8-17).
It is also a prophetic moment during which everyone is called to “listen to the voice of the Lord” and witness to the Gospel values of justice, reconciliation, peace, and solidarity.
The theme of “Pilgrims of Hope” invites all to live out the adventurous virtues of being “pilgrims”, and not tourists in this world; to be agents and ministers of Hope, amidst the challenges and crises of our time.
As part of the Conference’s efforts in preparation for the Jubilee Year celebration next year, there would be a year- long crusade to raise awareness about illegal mining and environmental degradation.
This crusade would be launched in April 2024 where a detailed outline of activities would be given and based on that Fr. Ennin therefore called on various institutions to embark on this journey to renew the environment.
Fr. Ennin called on “like- minded persons and groups, all the Catholic faithful, the Christian and Muslim confraternities, CSOs, professional bodies, institutions, traditional and political leaders, the media and all concerned Ghanaians who want to be citizens to join us on this pilgrimage of restoration of our land.”
He also added this pilgrimage of restoration is meant to denounce the erosion of moral values and the recent corruption, characterized by trickery and selfish material gains.
The Conference’s commitment to preparing for the Jubilee Year 2025 underlines the pivotal role of religious leaders in upholding the values of the Catholic Church in Ghana.
